A jury has decided at last, the plagiarism trial of Led Zeppelin’s STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN.
And they have determined that, the most overplayed song in the history of rock radio is no one’s fault but Led Zeppelin themselves.
A suit was filed by members of Spirit, claiming that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page stole their ideas for Stairway from the 1968 Spirit track “Taurus”, citing specifically the descending chromatic line that is the signature musical theme of the songs.
The band’s chief defense was that the figure in question had been used countless compositions in the past 300 years, including The Beatles MY MICHELLE, the romantic standard MY FUNNY VALENTINE, and, you know…Bach…
We’ve played for some cold audiences, but never quite like this..
Italian pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi performed his composition, Elegy for the Arctic, with the support of Greenpeace to bring awareness to the need for protection for the Arctic. Haunting and beautiful. And cold.
